NAIW OF RHODE ISLAND HISTORY
The National Association of Insurance Women
has had a presence in Rhode Island since 1944. At that time, The
Rhode Island chapter was known as the Insurance Women of Greater
Providence (IWOGP) and their first President was Anne F. Dunn. For a
brief time in our history, there were two associations in Rhode
Island, the IWOGP and the Insurance Women of Washington County. With
the advent of the interstate highway system, commuting became easier
and the two associations joined together and became the NAIW of
Rhode Island.
Over the last 55 years, there have been
three regional officers from the "Ocean State" --- Dorothy Downs,
Martina J. McConaghy and Sheila L. Russell; a good record for a
state comprised of only one association of more that 50 within the
region.
NAIW of RI has proudly hosted a number of
regional conferences; the most recent being 2001, 1995 and 1988.
Our membership of more than 170 men and
women are proud of our association and its many accomplishments over
the years as we have evolved from "an insurance women’s club" into
an association of insurance professionals dedicated to staying
current with the constant changes in today’s insurance industry. We
have two semesters each year where continuing education classes are
offered to members and the industry as well as our annual I-Day,
which is a full day of education programs and a recognition
luncheon.
